The spear points were unearthed at a site in Texas and are around 15,500 years old, which pre-dates the earliest known settlers on the continent.
A group of Texas researchers have just discovered the oldest weapons ever found in North America, and archaeologists have been questioning the history of the earliest settlers on the continent.
The weapons are ancient spear points, 15,500 years old. The are about 3 to 4 inches long and have been excavated from the Debra L. Friedkin site location about 40 miles outside of Austin, T.X.
Researchers have recently published their findings in the journal Science Advances, and these record-breaking weapons are raising new questions about the first groups to settle in North America, once believed to be the Clovis people.
“The findings extend our understanding of the early settlers to discover and settle North America,” said Michael Waters, a distinguished anthropology professor and director of the Center for the Study of First Americans at Texas A&M. Read the free article.
